Durante o 13º Encontro de Bispos dos Países Lusófonos (EBPL), que ocorreu entre os dias 26 e 30 de abril em Cabo Verde, os participantes solicitaram ao Vaticano que a língua portuguesa seja valorizada e que se torne oficial no Sínodo dos Bispos.
“Propomos unanimemente que a língua portuguesa, a quinta língua do mundo, falada por 260 milhões de pessoas, seja utilizada como língua oficial nas assembleias gerais do Sínodo dos Bispos”, assinala o documento conclusivo do Encontro.
No Vaticano, acontecem três assembleias sinodais com três grupos de trabalho em vários idiomas. Os bispos lusófonos fazem parte do grupo conhecido por “Ibérico” (Hibericus em latim) que tem suas conclusões publicadas em espanhol.
Durante o EBPL, os participantes analisaram o tema da próxima assembleia do Sínodo dos Bispos, que acontecerá em outubro no Vaticano: Os Jovens na Igreja: presença efetiva e transformadora, destacando as “boas práticas pastorais”, as iniciativas de voluntariado missionário, campos de férias e movimentos que acompanhem as novas gerações nas suas realidades quotidianas.
Estiveram presentes no evento religiosos católicos de Angola, Brasil, Cabo Verde, Guiné-Bissau, Moçambique, Portugal e São Tomé e Príncipe. A próxima edição do Encontro de Bispos dos Países Lusófonos está prevista para o período de 16 a 19 de janeiro de 2020, em Guiné-Bissau.
