No último dia 29 de março (quinta-feira), o governador do Estado de São Paulo, Geraldo Alckmin, e o embaixador de Portugal no Brasil, Jorge Cabral, assinaram, na capital paulista, o acordo para cedência, por 20 anos, do prédio da antiga Escola Portugal ao Ministério da Educação português. No local, será criada a primeira escola portuguesa do Brasil.
A cerimônia oficializou o decreto assinado pelo governador e pelo ministro da Educação, Tiago Brandão Rodrigues, em junho de 2017. O edifício cedido está localizado no bairro do Sumaré.
Em entrevista à TSF Rádio Notícias, o cônsul português em São Paulo, Paulo Lourenço, disse que a cedência “é um sonho, uma ambição antiga, tem mais de 30 anos. Agora torna-se um processo irreversível para a criação de um estabelecimento de ensino público português aqui em São Paulo, a maior cidade de língua portuguesa do mundo. É uma escola que vai servir todas as nacionalidades em São Paulo. É, na prática, uma escola internacional, que tem a nossa marca e cultura, o nosso currículo, programa pedagógico. Vai ser administrada diretamente pelo Ministério da Educação [de Portugal]”, contou.
Ainda de acordo com o cônsul, a escola portuguesa será uma instituição com dupla certificação curricular, equipada com um Centro de Língua Portuguesa e com um núcleo de formação para professores. “A expectativa é atender todas as nacionalidades, garantindo ainda um percentual de vagas para alunos da rede pública estadual. (…) Em paralelo, foi já criado o Grupo de Amigos e Patronos da Escola Portuguesa, plataforma aberta a todas as instituições, empresas, individualidades, organizações e lideranças que queiram contribuir para o processo de edificação e estruturação da futura Escola”, afirmou Paulo Lourenço.
